Rungs Studio's 1st Anniversary in Numbers

Rungs Studio is one year old. Here's what it took to build, who uses it and what you did with it, in numbers.

Szymon Palczynski ·

Rungs Studio is one year old today. Here's the first year in numbers: what it took to build, who uses it and what you did with it.

How long did it take to build it?

In the last 12 months alone, I spent 1,579 hours working on rungs.dev, which makes 2,227 hours in total. Not to mention the few thousand hours I put into plcsimulator.online, the project Rungs Studio evolved from.

My work is heavily assisted by AI, mostly Claude Code, but I also use GPT models to review Claude's output. Even though these models get better every month, they still hallucinate and sometimes produce garbage code. Above all, I need to be mindful of what I ask them to do, because they looove to generate code and it can quickly get out of control.

My approach is to ship fewer features but do my best to make them bug-free. I hate half-baked apps, especially when I'm trying to learn something. Despite all my effort, the app isn't bug-free. The number of edge cases and odd behaviors in Rockwell® PLCs makes it particularly hard, so your issue reports are very important. If something doesn't work the way you expect, please open an issue on GitHub.

You, around the world

In the last year, more than 80,000 unique users visited rungs.dev in more than 150,000 sessions, from 175 countries and territories. Together you spent more than 34,000 hours on it. Sessions grew from 451 in November 2025 to more than 38,000 in September 2026.

World map of sessions on rungs.dev by country over the first year. Visitors came from 175 countries and territories. The United States had the most sessions (about 18,500), followed by India (about 10,100), Brazil (about 5,500) and Mexico (about 5,400).

Nothing makes me happier than seeing users from countries I had never heard of, like the Cook Islands, Djibouti, Eritrea or Timor-Leste. I hope that one day there won't be a place on Earth that hasn't visited rungs.dev. ❤️

Rungs Studio numbers

  • AOIs created: 26,000+
  • AOIs shared: 2,800+
  • AOIs saved as .rungs files: 17,000+
  • Simulations run: 350,000+

Pie chart of about 205,000 editing sessions in Rungs Studio's first year. Ladder Diagram has about 187,000 (91.0%), Structured Text about 17,000 (8.3%) and tests about 1,400 (0.7%).

Even though Rungs Studio was first published with only a Structured Text editor, it really started to gain traction after I added the Ladder editor, and Ladder is now by far the most popular editor in the app.

Relay, the AI assistant in Studio, was added in March. Since then you've sent it more than 38,000 messages in about 12,000 conversations. I plan to improve its performance by giving it tools, so its usage will most likely grow.

Courses

Exercises launched in May, and since then more than 3,500 users have completed more than 15,700 exercises. There are now 84 exercises in 10 courses, and since certificates arrived on 30 September, you've earned 77 of them.

Since this is the only paid section of rungs.dev, I'm doing my best to give you the most value from it by improving the exercises and adding new courses that teach new instructions and logic patterns.

I'm also looking for ways to give you tips when you're stuck, and I want to make them available to more users in a limited form. There's no point in spending all my free time on them if only a handful of subscribers can use them. That said, I'm extremely grateful to everyone who bought Learn Plus. You guys are the reason this application is running. Thank you for your support.

Thank you 🙏

Whether you opened one exercise or build your own AOIs every week, thank you for being part of Rungs Studio's first year. Year two will bring Relay with tools, tips when you're stuck and new courses. If you find a bug or have an idea, let me know on GitHub. See you in year two.
